The Adoption Process
The Adoption Process
We take our duty of care very seriously, and always do our due diligence in home checking each potential adopter.
We want kitty to go to the right home, not just a home right now.
- Applicants are first home checked and approved.
- If we feel they are a suitable applicant and they pass the home check, they will be eligible to view your foster cat(s).
- We ask the applicant’s permission to pass their details to you, as under GDPR Catitude cannot give out fosterers’ information or contact details to third parties.
- You contact the applicant and arrange a mutually convenient date and time for them to come and view your foster(s).
- Once arranged, please confirm the date and time with us so we can check in with you after the viewing has been completed.
First Viewing
The goal of first viewing is pretty much the same as a job interview.
- The applicant gets to meet and interact with kitty, so they can see if they might be a good fit for them and their family.
- You get to meet and interact with the applicant, so you can see if they and their family might be a good fit for kitty. You are our eyes and ears. You are the advocate for your foster(s).
Never feel pressured into discussing a decision during the viewing.
After everyone concerned has seen/had enough, stick to a simple:
“Thanks so much for coming to visit (kitty). Someone from Catitude Rescue will be in contact with you very soon”
Remember that no potential adopter, however perfect a fit they appear to be, and however apparently head-over-heels in love, can take kitty home on their first viewing.
After the Viewing
Potential adopters need time, after the excitement has died down, to properly consider their decision and the commitment they are about to make, without the pressure of a fosterer present.
You need time to properly evaluate your decision, without the pressure of a potential adopter being present. You can contact us to discuss the visit and any concerns, if any, you might have. We will always support you 100% and will handle the applicant on your behalf.
If, after all this soul searching, everyone is happy to go ahead with the adoption - fantastic! Kitty moves one step closer to their new future!
Before Kitty Leaves You
These are the steps that must be completed before kitty leaves your care and goes off with their new family.
- Check with Ally that the adoption fee has been paid in full.
- Arrange a mutually convenient date and time for kitty’s collection.
- Let us know the time and date, and we will check that the new family has everything in place for kitty, including a suitable cat carrier for the journey home.
- At collection, before kitty leaves, complete two copies of their adoption form (or make a copy of a completed one if you are able).
- Give the following to their new family:
- The Health Check Certificate
- The Vaccination Card with the microchip details
- The completed “A few of my favourite things” form
Congratulations! You can now give kitty a huge tearful hug, let them know that they are going to a fantastic new forever home, and tell them how proud you are of them. Also, give them a big kiss from us!
- Once you have waved them goodbye, and once the tears have stopped, please send a clear photograph/scan of their adoption form to Ally so she can update their microchip details.
